Fashionbean's favourites for Christmas

Ben Herbert, editor-in-chief, of style site FashionBeans.com chooses his top Christmas gifts

Christmas is that time of the year when men across the country eat too much, drink too much and pretend that they really wanted that three pack of socks/pants/insert useless gift here. However, the festive period is also my absolute favourite time of the year for fashion. No; I am not talking about that naff jumper your Nan bought you for the fifth year straight, I am referring to layering – thick knits, hard wearing boots, premium overcoats, tweed blazers, extravagant velvet and generally being able to make the very most of your wardrobe. This year, why not see more

MilanStyle's most wanted for Christmas

Philip Walsh, features writer, Milanstyle.co.uk, assembles his Christmas wishlist

OK, I realise Christmas is all about spending time with our loved ones and appreciating the simple things in life but there are still so many items I haven’t got around to buying this year. And since I haven’t found the time to do it, would it be such a bad thing if someone else did it for me? It is Christmas after all. Oops, I’ve just forwarded my new my-wardrobe wish list to my entire address book… see more

Gifts with gravity

This is how Christmas gifting works: you give one stellar present, two to five slightly smaller main presents, and a spread of smaller satellite gifts.

It’s easy. Just think of it like the solar system – the sun is at the centre, a few planets surround it and a multiplicity of moons orbit the lot. It gives your gifts the perfect mix of quality, quantity and dynamism to surprise and thrill your willing victim.

It is with just this in mind that today’s home page splits presents into the various strata of gifting, from stocking fillers like a pair of preppy striped socks, up to headline-grabbers like this truly desirable melton wool coat from Burberry, which frankly, will make anybody’s day.

Of course, if you’re looking to buy for the see more

All he wants for Xmas

Gary Kingsnorth, founder of thestyleking.com, shares his seasonal wishlist.

This Christmas I am looking forward to spending some time in Cornwall, it is a great time to chill, walk the dogs on the beach and a great excuse for doing nothing. Next year is already shaping up to be very busy so I will probably be thinking about work most of the time!

  • A good book always goes down well and this reminds me of beach life in California – my favourite place.
  • This is an ultra-cool and stylish wallet, which I would be very happy to find in my stocking. see more

marcus jaye the chic geek

The Chic Geek founder and author on what gifts he’d like to find under his tree

The biggest anti-climax of the year, bah humbug, Christmas is a time to take off the cynical cap and just sit back and enjoy having time off with the people you love. Because of the business I’m in, you can get a little shy about asking for anything but then if you say “nothing”, and knowing how difficult I am to buy for, you end up with either something you don’t want or cause excess stress to the person buying for you.

If I’d been a good boy this year, this is the selection that I would like to see under my tree come Christmas morning. see more

Christmas style getaways

Wherever you head this Christmas, enjoy the clichés without looking like one.

NEW YORK

For Christmas romance with a no-compromise approach to style, there’s no better destination than the Big Apple.

TO DO: Skating in Central Park, hanging out by the big Christmas tree at the Rockefeller Center and generally looking atmospheric amidst the crowds of tourists, street steam and impressive Holiday lights, you really will feel like you’re in the movies. Fun sure, but it’s also a little cheesy, non? There is a solution and it comes from a native brand…

New Brand: Fred Perry x 6876

Four times every year cult British brand Fred Perry creates a collaborative collection under the name Blank Canvas. Past team-ups have seen the brand rope in the specialist talents of artists like Peter Blake and Japanese print makers, often cleverly riffing on the brand’s subcultural heritage.

But this autumn the excitement levels slip into overdrive, as the co-creating is done by 6876, the purist design brainchild of menswear guru Kenneth MacKenzie (who, by the way, has been appointed as creative director for Fred Perry’s Laurel Wreath mainline) named for the Paris student riots of 1968 and the 1976 birth of punk. The label has nurtured an obsessive fan base with style insiders since its conception in 1995, all going doe eyed for its functional but fuss free design.

The result of its Fred Perry team-up is minimal see more
