The Story:
Credited as the world's first boat shoe, the story behind the creation of the Sperry Top-Sider is one of fashion legend. While taking his dog for a walk, avid sailor and hobbyist inventor Paul Sperry noticed how his pet didn't slip or slide on the snowy plain. On returning to his workshop he sought inspiration from this natural phenomenon and set about designing his own wet weather footwear. He assembled a shoe from an ordinary trainer, a razor and some pieces of rubber and the boat shoe was born. The rest, as they say, is history.
