Look one: Repeat prints
The easiest way to wear the printed shirt is with a small scale repeat print. It's more than enough to get you noticed without making you feel in any way outré and it wears smartly with tailored separates as well as chinos and jeans. It all adds up to making this the perfect print for beginners. Plus, there's a touch of the very on trend Fifties infusing these looks go for dots and spots or splash out just a little more with the Marc by Marc Jacobs finch print.
Look two: Travel and tourism
A summer travelling vibe in the grand tradition of Alan Whicker, Eric Newby and Alexander Kinglake, (look them up if you don't know them, they're all worth it) has seen men's shirt designers tap-in to a global range of inspirations. Check Grand Tour style Latinate rococo prints courtesy of D&G, Explorer friendly jungle prints from Universal Works and even traditional batik checks from Burberry. Get into the spirit and wear them with white and navy trousers and chinos.
Look three: The Fifties
There has always been something cool about the 1950s. It was the decade in which Americana bloomed into something recognisable, wearable and fun, with youthful tribes blossoming into mods and rockers, teddy boys and greasers across both sides fo the Atlantic. Channel the retroisms with a simple half sleeve shirt in a faithful reproduction of the decade's style from Levi's Vintage Clothing or go for a tribute to the decade from Moschino or Universal Works.
Look four: Hawaiian and Tropic
The Hawaiian shirt. Face it, it is the most fun you can dress up in without going to a fancy dress party, and right now the look has returned to serious style status. It's all about adding some authentic heritage to your print run and donning some summer colour. We've got plenty in old-school designs from Paradise Found, some cleverly recreated looks from YMC and for the slightly shier guy, try the surf-tastic hibiscus print from Hartford. Who knew that Pacific styling could work so well in the office? We'll be wearing ours surprisingly smartly with tailored trousers and coloured denim but they'll pep up your blue jeans a treat when layered over a graphic T-shirt.
