The Jet Set

Paradise Islands

Swimwear, Hawaiian prints and light bright eveningwear is the way to cope with the hot hot heat of the tropics. But this summer we're going to learn how a Royal does it - Prince William is slated to skip from Singapore to the Solomon Islands as part a Diamond Jubilee tour that will revive the old school jet set's insistence on formality. Make room in your hard-cornered leather suitcase for both the casual prints and some relaxed tailoring. And now really is the time to be brave with colour - even if you start off pasty the sun will soon see your skin receive a lusty glow, and the bright look is on the money at the moment so it's time to indulge.

Classic Cruising

Casual separates with a summery spin, and a bit of dockside charm? It's spot on for the gentleman sailor or vintage cruiser in you. So whether you pivot your summer around a gentle saunter up the Nile or a meander round the Dalmatian coast in a luxury gulet, unleash your Portofino favourites for a top deck formality that brings out the skipper in you. Tweak your nautical favourites with some tailored shorts and look to lightweight linens for your daywear.

Spice Route

Breezy cotton and linen separates with the scent of the spice road on them - that's the roll-up-and-pack motto behind the printed shirts and unstructured tailoring that together take up mere inches in your

traveller's backpack. It's a little more bohemian than the high octane luxury of some jet set looks but no less glamorous for that. Think tailoring with sandals, ethnic prints and patterns mixed with sandy neutrals. Evoke the post-war explorer's wardrobe with the batik print tops, printed plimsolls, lightweight trench coats and blazers for the evening. Now get yourself to Sam's bar for a sundowner.

Le Dolce Vita

If old school black and white glamour is your thing (and why wouldn't it be?) then get dressed for wading into the Trevi Fountain with Anita Ekberg, riding the Orient Express and dressing for dinner every single night this summer. It's all about hitting the capitals of Europe in the sort of style that would make your grandfather proud. So go for a Fellini-esque aesthetic but dial it down with lighter fabrics: think smart linens and gossamer shirts with refined accessories.

Hamptons

Someone's pressed the reset button on Hamptons-esque preppiness this year, and the aesthetic has been whizzed right back to the 1950s with a mix of tailored and casual separates. So if this summer is seeing you invade the Ivy League outposts of the Eastern Atlantic seaboard then make sure you conjure up the correct pedigree. This year's update is a healthy sense of colour which adds a confident zing in bright reds, whites, blues and apple greens along with washed out pastel shades, Mix them with neutral or navy to make them manly.
