The Guardian’s Jess
Cartner-Morley,
on bringing
a little grandeur to dressing
for a British autumn.

Thanks to a certain hold-the-front-page fashion
moment (clue: a white lace dress, an Abbey) back in
spring, Princess style - the real deal, not the Disney
Store version - is once again the very height of chic.
The young Princesses Margaret and Elizabeth, and
the strict style of Wallis Simpson are the industry’s
moodboard pin ups. What’s more; the British
Heritage trend is marvelously practical for a real
British autumn. Keep it modern by updating
Forties-style trousers with a slinky, Seventies silk
shirt; by pairing a pencil skirt with a chunky
sweater, or take tweed out of mothballs by teaming
a shift dress with bare legs and ankle boots.
