Celebrate Mothers Day with a trip down fashions memory lane. 5 my-wardrobe girls delve into the archives and explain what their mothers style means to them.
My mum always told me that you should dress according to what you love. My Mums look is inspired by the classics, but worn with her own unique twist; here she teams a traditional shirt, sweater and pearl combo with a pair of hot pink trousers to spice things up. She was also always impeccably turned out - after all, its the little touches that turn heads and my mum made them spin!
I remember always being in awe of my mums style and could spend hours rummaging through her wardrobe - the high-waisted wide leg trousers, the simple yet chic white t-shirts and the printed maxi dresses that formed the effortless style of a 1970s mum. This particular look personifies not only my mum and the current seventies trend, but also my own signature look - flared jeans, a white t-shirt and sunglasses. A classic, effortlessly chic off-duty look.
When looking back at my mums old pictures of the 1970s and 1980s, I remembered what great style she had (and still does). I love this picture. My mum looks effortlessly chic in this white ensemble, which is no mean feat when you have three children all under the age of three! Sporting a sharp bob and oversized shades she bears an uncanny resemblance to Anna Wintour, which made me chuckle... and what worked for mum worked for my sister too!
I always remember thinking my mum was really glamourous and I couldnt wait to grow up so I could dress just like her. Her style is very classic but having spent the first part of her life in Italy, she was used to adding a bit of drama. This was always with her accessories - great standout pieces like an amazing bracelet, shoes or bag that I couldnt wait to steal when I hit my teens. Finally, she topped it all off with her winning smile.
I absolutely love how stylish my Mum looks in this party picture. Her combination of a colour block maxi with a white blazer is inspiring and a look that I cant get enough of at the moment... and it makes me laugh that I am copying my Mums style nearly 30 years later! Its a classic look from my Mum who always wears what she loves, which at times has made her a bit of a sartorial rebel.
